Historic Formula Ford welcomed a new winner in the shape of Neil Hose, after the Scotsman got round race leader Spencer Shinner in the closing stages of Race 2.

Shinner had looked like the victor in his Merlyn MK20/50, but Hose’s determined charge from the middle of the grid put his own Merlyn close to Shinner from the start. Aside from the efforts of the two drivers, a key factor in the race was oil deposited quite early on at Coram, which caused most of the field to slide or spin at some point. When Nick Sheppard and Dick Dixon’s Lotus collided there after six laps, the safety car came out, negating the lead that Shinner had built up over Hose. When Hose got ahead, Shinner was unable to use a treacherous Coram as a passing spot, meaning Hose kept his lead.
