2022 SMRC Knockhill Round 2
Scottish Mini Cooper Cup
After another strong performance in qualifying Neil Hose secured his second front row start of the season, placing himself in a solid position to gain championship points.
After a great start alongside last years Champion Michael Weddell, Hose sustained damage after contact from another car which became out of control in the fight for position heading down to the hairpin in lap one.
Unable to continue he retired from the race resulting in a DNF and back of the grid start for race two.
A strong recovery drive in Race 2 resulted in a P4 finish narrowly missing out on a podium from last on the grid.
The reverse grid race 3, was a great opportunity for Hose to turn around his earlier misfortunes, starting again on the front row for the short 9 lap sprint race. Clinching the lead by the first corner he lead the race building up a 5 second lead on his rivals which was looking like convincing victory until the safety car was deployed with 2 laps to go.
despite Hose maintaining his lead after the restart, an over zealous manoeuvre from another driver turned Him around on the exit of clarks resulting in contact with the tyre wall and the 2nd DNF of the day.
Later Hose said,” Today was one of those days in motorsport when nothing seems to go your way. I’m really gutted to have lost so many points in the championship fight so early on in the season. We’ll just have to get our head down and go for as many wins as possible.
The Championship continues at Knockhill for round 3, the only reverse direction race this season.
